Character Home Extension in Mosman Park

Project Description

This project involved the design and documentation of an extension to an existing character residence in Mosman Park, developed in accordance with local planning requirements, the Residential Design Codes (R-Codes) and relevant Australian Standards.

The proposal introduces a new ground-floor kitchen and living extension, carefully integrated with the existing residence and garage while respecting the architectural character of the original home.

Above the existing garage, a private master suite and studio retreat was designed within the roof space. A sculptural spiral staircase connects the new upper level with the kitchen through an open atrium, creating a strong visual connection between the two floors and bringing additional light and spatial interest into the extension.

The existing residence’s distinctive 45-degree roof pitch became a key architectural element, informing the form and proportions of the new addition and allowing contemporary interventions to complement the character of the original dwelling.

My involvement included architectural design, functional and planning analysis, architectural drawings, 3D visualisation and documentation for Planning and Building Approval.
