This sustainable residence in Beaconsfield explores the use of HempBLOCK construction as a natural, high-performance alternative to conventional masonry, combining environmental responsibility with healthy and comfortable living.
The building envelope was developed around passive design principles, with particular attention to thermal performance, airtightness, moisture management and energy efficiency. The hemp-based wall system provides a highly insulating and vapour-permeable envelope while reducing reliance on conventional, carbon-intensive construction materials.
My involvement focused on the development and coordination of the working documentation, including integration of the HempBLOCK wall system with the broader architectural and structural requirements, as well as the airtightness strategy and mechanical ventilation approach.
The project demonstrates how natural building materials and careful building-envelope design can be incorporated into contemporary Australian residential architecture to create a home that is comfortable, healthy, energy-efficient and environmentally conscious.
